Serbia vs England: Euro 2024 Match Report

England Win Euro 2024 Opener Against Serbia

England got off to a winning start to their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

The Three Lions were made to work hard for their victory, with Serbia proving to be a stubborn opponent. However, England's quality ultimately shone through, with Jude Bellingham heading home the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute.

England started the game brightly and created a number of early chances. Raheem Sterling forced a good save from Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić with a low shot from the edge of the area, while Harry Kane headed wide from a Kieran Trippier cross.

Serbia gradually grew into the game and started to create chances of their own. Aleksandar Mitrović had a great opportunity to give Serbia the lead when he found himself through on goal, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

England took the lead against the run of play when Bellingham headed home a cross from Trippier. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder timed his run perfectly to meet Trippier's delivery and send the ball into the net.

Serbia almost equalized immediately after the restart, but Dusan Vlahović's header came back off the crossbar. England then had a chance to double their lead when Kane was played through on goal, but he was denied by Milinković-Savić.

Both teams continued to create chances in the second half, but neither side could find a way to score. England held on to secure a valuable victory, which puts them in a strong position in Group C.
